National Records of Scotland (NRS) is Scotland’s record keeper. Our purpose is to collect, preserve and produce information about Scotland's people and history and make it available to inform current and future generations.

 

NRS are welcoming applications for 2 Finance Business Partner roles to join our core finance team, supporting the Senior Accountant in the key financial reporting processes. The Finance Business Partner role rotationally covers every aspect of NRS finance: budget management, financial reporting, monthly accounting, revenue, expenses, payroll, capital and project accounting. The role represents an excellent opportunity for a part qualified accountant to gain rounded experience across key finance functions.

 

You will report directly to the Senior Accountant and will also work closely with the wider Finance team.

Responsibilities

• Support the preparation of key management information including the NRS annual budget and various mid-year budgeting exercises as part of the SG Spending Review process.

 

• Perform routine month end activities, ensure accuracy and provide insight, supporting the production of financial reports.

 

• Ensure accuracy of financial data, including quality assurance and regular reconciliation exercises.

 

• Provide timely and accurate budget monitoring information for areas of the organisation and advise / support on related financial decisions.

 

• Proactively identify efficiencies in systems and processes, ensuring that financial controls are adequate and continually improving in order to contribute to the delivery of value for money outcomes.

 

• Work flexibly and in rotation (where necessary) across the Finance Team and functions, taking on a range of other work as required to ensure that priorities are met.

Essential Criteria & Qualifications

We expect that applicants will be part qualified or studying towards a Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB) or CIMA qualification. We will also consider applications where extensive financial management experience can be demonstrated.

1. Strong financial knowledge and analytical skills gained within a financial environment, with experience in reviewing financial performance, challenging assumptions and understanding budget principles.

 

2. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to influence at all levels.

 

3. Ability to recognise, adapt and respond to competing demands to balance priorities.

 

4. Uses a variety of sources, tools and techniques to analyse and interpret management information to support decision making with Working knowledge of financial systems & Microsoft Office suite.

 

Additional Information :


Scottish Government is preparing for the implementation of a new HR and Finance platform and, as a result, some job offers will be subject to an October 2024 start date at the earliest. This will be confirmed as your application progresses.

This post is usually based in General Register House, 2 Princes Street, Edinburgh, EH1 3YY and offers hybrid working in line with current Scottish Government and National Records of Scotland policies.

 

Minimum Time In Post : 

 

You will be expected to remain in post for a minimum of three years unless successful at gaining promotion to a higher Band or Grade. 


In the event that further posts are required, a reserve list of successful candidates will be kept for up to 12 months.
