We are currently seeking applications for Senior Civil Engineers within Transport Scotland in the Roads Directorate. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will start on the minimum of the pay range. Transport Professional Pay Supplement
This post attracts a £7,862 pay supplement (pro rata).  Pay supplements are temporary payments designed to address recruitment and retention issues caused by market pressures and are subject to regular review.
 
Overview
Transport Scotland is the national transport agency, seeking to deliver a safe, efficient, cost-effective and sustainable transport system for the benefit of the people of Scotland.  Transport Scotland is accountable to Parliament and the public through Scottish Ministers, with a budget of around £3.9 billion per year. Transport is a vital feature of the Scottish Government's focus on increasing sustainable economic growth, and transport investments and policies have major impacts on our economy,  environment, and society.
 
The Roads Directorate is responsible for carrying out the management, maintenance and operation of the Trunk Roads in Scotland.  The Trunk Road network comprises of around 3,500km of road and is the largest asset Scottish Ministers own (£21 billion net gross asset value). Other priorities include the co-ordination of response to emergencies affecting transport, roads policy, road safety including oversight of progress towards national casualty reduction targets, Intelligent Transport Systems and lighting, resilience, winter maintenance, transport planning of major events, roads and bridges design standards, and air quality and the environment including climate change adaptation and asset management. 
 
The Directorate contributes to Transport Scotland’s delivery priorities of: 
 
• Improved connections across Scotland
• Better journey times, better reliability
• Greener transport alternatives, reduced emissions
• Enhanced safety, more innovation

Important Information

Essential Criteria & Qualifications

You must hold a suitable degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent, and be a chartered member of an appropriate professional body and registered with the Engineering Council.

Minimum Time in Post
You will be expected to remain in post for a minimum of three years unless successful at gaining promotion to a higher Band or Grade. 

Location
This post is based in  Glasgow, with hybrid working in line with current Transport Scotland policies. You will be expected to be office based twice per week, pro rata.

The post is a full time role, but staff with different working patterns are invited to apply, and we will assess proposed working patterns against the business requirements for this post.
